California Dreamin'

From my dad's side of the family they came from Cuba in 1980 when my dad was 10 years old. They lived in Florida for 6 months and then were given a choice of moving to Kansas, California, Michigan, or staying in Florida. My grandparents chose California because a family friend that they had found when they came to the United States recommended going to California for the best opportunities of the country. So my grandparents have been here my parents been here and now I'm here. I think the type of people that come to California are those who have heard of California's "prosperity" and pay of the jobs here. Others may come for the weather or the Colleges here.

American Exceptionalism

Are Americans unique? Or is it just propaganda we're fed all our lives? If you were to line up people from many different countries, could you pick out an American? What does East of Eden tell us about the experience of being an American?

Americans are unique but not supirior. I feel that many Americans feel being "unique" makes you supiror and that's where I feel thats not true. Not to say that Americans aren't important. It's just we seem to be very cut of the world like in East in Edan we hypocritical sometimes of other people when infact we do the same thing.

Inherit the wind

Another book I see people defending what they belived was "The Crucible" with John Proctor at the end of the book just like how the odds were against Drummond, the odds were against Proctor when he was trying to show people what he belived wasn't wrong even though because of the mental block people refused to see it his way. It's also seen in Thoreau's writings where he telling us not to be confided to the everyday things of society and unconform to truly be ourselves.

Huck Finn Censored?

I do agree with the writer, Huck Finn is a book that may have profanity like the word "nigger" but it was the actual language used back then which is something even if we're embarrassed of it now have to live with because it was once something part of our everyday lives.
