Journal 3

--Chapter 5: “I had shut the door.... I never seen such a son.”

From the fear I saw in huck's voice from the voice I came up with as I read the lines it's as almost he was fearful
of his father which If has me believe that Mark Twain had a harsh type of dad(43). As from the father's point of
view personally I don;t see why he would want his son to do well because I always thought that you would want
your children to have a better life than you. Yet, I see how he could be angered and it's not that he's so angrey at
Huck for doing well but that he feels like its a reminder that he could of does something with his life and try to get
an education but he didn't.

Cristina

Dear Cristina,

I would like to persuade you to read my essay on McDonalds and its not so happy truth.

The greatest obstacles to this happening seem to be finding multiple examples of this.

I am also worried aboutNot being able to come up with a valid thesis.

What do you think of my essay?

Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,

Gaby

Thoreau and Walden

1. Why did Thoreau move to Walden?
it was an attempt to prove or culture the land he lived in

2. What was his life like there?
It was a simple life style though he did eventually return to the city

3. What did Thoreau criticize in modern life?
that new technology takes away from the substance that once was.

4. Do you agree or disagree with his critique?
to a certain extent i do agree because if you look at our society today traditions or morals that were instilled in families aren't there today. Not mention how people become dependant on things when we get lazy.

http://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1994/07/01/

This comic strip of Calvin and Hobbes shows transcendentalism because Calvin is being proud of
something most people find gross which would be his tooth.
No mater what other people reactions have been he still thinks it's cool.

American Literary Periods

The difference between the colonial period and the romanticism period much of the colonial period was based off of religion. Much of the transcendentalism characteristics were True equality of spiritually, self-reliance and intuition and characteristic of it would be the Gothic version of it. Much of how people acted in those times were how people reacted from the books in the colonial period God was the main purpose, romanticism people questioned moral ideas, and finally in Transcendentalism much of it was sticking up to what you believed in.

Teen Suicide

Teen Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for teenagers between the age of 15 and 18. In L.A. the rate for teen suicides is 300-400 which equals out to be about 1 teenager per day.
I think the reason teens commit suicide is because of the stress that they feel from others around them or from the stress they put on themselves that puts a toll on them and then ultimately leads them to their final decision. Another reason teens might commit suicide is because of the feeling of not being accepted by anyone and the lack of acceptance leads them to suicide as well.

Crucible Poem

Don't Mess With The Devil

Your Web of Lies
Has Caught you in a bind
It's too late to free yourself
you are mine now

Ya' Danced, ya' spun, and did a little jig
Lied to the people
With a little grin

It was ever so cunning
Using me as an excuse
To get rid of Lady Proctor
by making her vamoose

If only I had told ya'
That proctor has forgotten
How he touched you for a moment
Then left you a bit rotten

But silly ol' me
I don't do that kind of thing

So stop your heart
But, too bad
It just ain't you

Ya' yell, Ya' scream
And you do your thing

Tellin' the lies
And putting it in there ears
Of these "witches"
So it appears

It's a shame
At least for you
That you will be killin' Proctor too

You tell me you'll fix it
But it ain't gonna happen
I'm gonna make him die
I'll do it for you without even a cry

So, don't Beg
Don't Plead
Don't do anything

Just tell him you love him
And he'll understand
At least in your mind
That is

Too tell you the truth
After all these years
He's much rather die
Because he found his peace
But not with you or I.
